ECMWF has an extensive education and training programme to assist Member States, Co-operating States and WMO National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in the training of scientists in numerical weather forecasting, and in making use of the ECMWF computing and archive facilities. The 2010 programme has now been finalized.
You will find the contents of the courses and the methods of application on our web. The training courses consist of modules which can be attended separately. Since the courses' contents do not vary much from one year to another, students may decide to attend different modules in different years.
Please note that the dates for the courses on “Use of ECMWF Products” have been changed, with both modules now being held in February 2010.
The programme consists of training courses on
- Use and Interpretation of ECMWF Products
This course discusses the ECMWF products in operational weather forecasting available to the Member States. It is mainly aimed at forecasters or people with forecasting experience.
- Use of computing facilities
In this course the use of ECMWF computing and archive facilities is introduced. This course is aimed at both current and potential users of the Centre’s facilities.
- Numerical Weather Prediction
This course targets the various aspects of research on numerical weather prediction at ECMWF. It consists of four modules covering scientific training on numerics, physics, data assimilation and predictability.
Please note the following application deadlines:
‘Use of ECMWF Products’ and ‘Use of Computer Facilities’: 11 December 2009,
‘Numerical Weather prediction’: 26 February 2010.
Annual Seminar
In addition to the training courses we will organize our Annual Seminar on 7-10 September 2010. The programme for this event will be posted around Spring 2010.
