A co-operation agreement between ECMWF and the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) entered into force on 8 February 2012. The purpose of the agreement is to establish a general framework for the exchange of information and of expertise between the Parties.
The provision of ECMWF data and products to RIMES and its member states will be subject to separate, project-specific sub-agreements between the parties. The agreement between ECMWF and RIMES is made available here.
RIMES is an intergovernmental institution, owned and managed by its Member States, for the generation and application of early warning information. RIMES evolved from the efforts of 29 countries in Africa and Asia, in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, to establish a regional early warning system within a multi-hazard framework for the generation and communication of early warning information. The purpose of RIMES is to provide early warning services for enhanced preparedness, response, and mitigation of natural hazards, according to differing needs and demands of its Member States.
